When people hear of John’s 30,000 mile canoe trip they often wonder, what kind of
canoe is he paddling?
John is paddling a Kruger sea wind canoe and he insists it is the best canoe in the
world. John is more than happy to let anyone take his sea wind for a test paddle.

Verlen's canoes already hold more long distance records than any other canoe
design in history. The Sea wind is the product of Verlen Krugers 100,000 miles of
personal experience paddling and over 40 designs and experiments that led up to
the Sea Wind. Here are some of Verlens trips that helped led up to the hull design for
the Sea Wind.
Ultimate Canoe Challenge -- 28,043 miles -- April 29, 1980 to December 15, 1983. -- A
Guinness World Record
Two Continent Canoe Expedition -- 21,246 miles -- From the mouth of the Mackenzie
River to Cape Horn, June 8, 1986 to March 1, 1989
Mississippi River World Record -- 2,043 miles from Lake Itasca to Mile Zero, Gulf of
Mexico in 23 days, 10 hours, 20 minutes. April 27 to May 20, 1984 -- A Guinness World
Record
The most amazing fact is Verlen Kruger never paddled a day in his life until he was
41 years old! In 2001 as he turned 79, he and paddling partner, Bob Bradford, 58,
placed first in the longest nonstop canoe/kayak race in history--an epic marathon of
2,348 miles down the flood-ravaged Mississippi River, taking only 24 consecutive
days. And in 2002, to celebrate his 80th birthday, he canoed 2040 miles down the
length of the Yukon River.
Verlen was a flight instructor for training advanced fighter pilots in the Army during
WWII he even served a tour of duty flying P-51's over Korea and Japan. Being a pilot
takes someone who pays attention to detail and his canoes are a clear reflection of
that.
The sea wind is not just made for the long trips it s a quality canoe that is able to
navigate oceans, lakes, and rivers in comfort and safety whether it be for a one day
or a thousand days.
"My Canoes are designed to be the ultimate tripping canoe. A top of the line
expedition specialist. The combination of all the unique features make my boat as
comfortable, efficient, seaworthy and convenient as any canoe or kayak that ever
parted the waters.
The design concepts are a break with tradition and form. It is an innovative functional
departure from conventional ideas of what a canoe should look like and how it should
be handled. Car designs have changes over the years, why not canoes?"-Verlen

Kruger Canoes are tough
- We build them exactly
like Verlen intended them
to be built. We have not
made any changes to the
original design or to the
incredibly resistant
lay-up he determined is
the best.
Kruger Canoes are made
one at a time and with
care.
We understand your
passion for Paddling.
